#this relationship is so so important to me  #if draco doesn’t love his mother to death in fic - and vice versa - you’re wrong  #she didn’t want her baby to go away to durmstrang because it was too far away  #she risked her life for him not just in the forbidden forest but potentially for making that unbreakable vow - surely voldemort’s reaction to that could have been a mess  #it’s like - not even a question to her that draco is above all things  #she reacts to the idea of protecting draco above all else with such - resignment seems too negative a term - just  #a total sound sense of OF COURSE this is what i am doing there is no other option  #and that amount of love and loyalty is staggering  #and it’s not going to fall apart in the face of potential differing ideologies or queer leanings or anything else  #not when she shows so clearly by the end that draco matters to her more than these idealogies really do  #i’m not saying she doesn’t believe in pureblood supremacy or have those beliefs ingrained in her in a very real way  #i’m just saying draco means more to her than that

Chivalry can be patronizing, a desire for fame as bad as one for power, and Gryffindor traits can turn to arrogance, hotheadedness, and a lack of foresight - the sort of courage that rushes into things or commits brash acts to prove bravery, like McLaggen’s willingness to eat a pound of doxy eggs on a bet. Ravenclaw intelligence can be cold and come off as lofty, detached, and high-handed; and even Hufflepuff hard work and loyalty become problematic if the work is turned to bad ends, or if loyalty is given to a bad cause or unworthy person.
